It is my goal, as a teacher, to provide a safe, encouraging, and respectful classroom environment in which all students can achieve both academically as well as emotionally. It is my belief that, through education, a student will receive the vital skills and tools necessary to build a life that is successful. Within my classroom, individuals should be continually encouraged to solve problems similar to those they will encounter outside of a structured school setting. This approach allows student to be instilled with the skills necessary to function as productive members of society. Part of the process of not only teaching content but also instilling lifelong values involves a considerable amount of collaboration among myself, students and parents. My decision to pursue a career as an educator is due, in part, to my natural ability to make a positive impact on the life of a child. Teaching is a highly rewarding career in which one is able to directly impact a child’s life, ensuring them a chance of success. Many people in my life have contributed to my decision of teaching, including many of my own teachers. I want to be one of those teachers that my students remember many years down the road. My teaching style can best be described as one that encompasses a diversity of instructional methods and technology resources. I am a strong proprietor of hands-on learning because I understand that supplementing curriculum with a variety of activities is essential to the process of learning. It is important to engage students in interesting lessons while using strategies that can appeal to all types of learners. I believe learning occurs when a student is fully engaged in the educational process, makes a personal connection with the content, and applies the knowledge accordingly to a variety of experiences. Special Education teachers and general education teachers have the unique ability to collectively ensure each individuals level of success. To conclude, my top priority as a teacher is to instill a passion for learning within all of my students while providing them with an educational setting that is supportive and positive. I hope to provide the skills and tools necessary for success and to individually encourage the talents of each student. I want every student to have the opportunity to achieve their dreams, to work through their fears and disabilities, and to become functioning members of society well after they leave my classroom.
