Nicole D.
Private tutor in Cumming, GA
Education
Senior at Kennesaw State University. I'll be graduating with my B.S. in Mathematics in December 2015.
Experience
Four years of tutoring experience: Prior to private tutoring, I worked at the KSU Mathlab and learned how to jump between different subjects of mathematics. One student may need help with college algebra, the next with statistics, then another student may need assistance with calculus II. I learned how to manage my time with each student, especially during finals time. My private tutoring service is called Need Sum Help? Tutoring both traditional and nontraditional college students, I supported myself with my personal business for a year before I was asked to join the MaThCliX team in January of this year. They are located in Woodstock, GA. Again, I continue to increase my skills of effectively communicating mathematical topics from 5 years old to 45 years old. I have learned to adjust my teaching style based on student's age/level/style of learning. I also assist MaThCliX's Test Prep Super-coordinator with her SAT/ACT students (in math, of course). Currently, I have agreed to be the Coordinator for JUMP Study at JUMP TNT (Trampoline & Tumbling) in Suwanee, GA where I connect tutors in the area for our athletes. Gaining skills in networking! Since my freshmen year of college, I have done undergraduate research with some KSU faculty in topics such as economics and fractal dimension, which I gave an oral presentation for each at local mathematics conferences. I even had the honor of representing Dr. Jonathan Lewin for his contributions in the field of pure mathematics. I presented his "Simple Proof of Zorn's Lemma" in 2013 at the Kennesaw Mountain Undergraduate Mathematics Conference. Throughout my research experience, I found some flavors of math I liked...and some flavors of math I did not like. And that's okay. How do you know if you like something until you try it? As a tutor, really I am a mentor in life skills. I work hard to encourage confidence within each and every one of my students.
